What is slitting optimization?
Slitting optimization is deciding how to cut wide metal coils into narrower strips so that as much material as possible ships to customers instead of going to scrap. It is a hard combinatorial problem: which orders to combine on which coil, in what arrangement, on which line. Doing it by hand costs both planner hours and yield. LineSight's optimization engine solves it in seconds.
How does LineSight reduce scrap?
LineSight evaluates far more order-to-coil combinations than a person can, across your entire order book and inventory at once. It finds the setups where widths nest together with the least trim loss, so more of every coil ships as sold product. At Elite Steel, average scrap rate dropped 2.9 percentage points, which added roughly $850,000 in annualized revenue.
How is LineSight different from ERP add-ons or generic AI tools?
LineSight is purpose-built for metal slitting. ERP add-ons record what happened but were never designed to plan a slitting line. Generic AI tools lack the domain model: knife setups, gauge and width constraints, coil genealogy, drop cuts.
