For a shop that already runs on IBM i, holds a lot of customer-owned or consigned metal, and buys by the ton while selling by the piece, Metalware is built for exactly that and lets you keep the platform you know, on your own servers or hosted by Paragon as MetalNet. For a shop that wants to change platforms, wants one vendor from quoting through accounting, and wants analytics AI on top, Eniteo is the broader published product.
For established flat-roll and toll shops this is often a question of staying or moving rather than a fresh pick. Neither vendor publishes pricing, though Paragon does describe MetalNet as a subscription with a predictable monthly cost.
At a glance
What Metalware does well
Paragon is an IBM i, EDI and managed-services firm, founded in 1996 and headquartered in York, Pennsylvania, that acquired Metalware in 2002. It calls Metalware the complete on-premise ERP for metal service centers, says it scales from a single site to a multinational with multiple currencies and languages, and reports more than 200 sites on its metals software. It targets flat-roll, full-line, pipe and tube, specialty metals and toll processors.
The published detail is heaviest where inventory gets awkward. Paragon says catch weight and dual units of measure are handled in every transaction, and Metalware tracks customer-owned and consigned inventory, remnants and drops, with imaged mill test reports pulled from the inventory record. Quotes are built on live inventory, and orders flow into production and inventory without re-keying. Processing tracks slitting, cut-to-length, blanking and toll jobs.
Two other things are particular to Paragon. Because it runs its own managed EDI and VAN business, the EDI work and the ERP come from the same firm. And MetalNet offers the same core functionality as a hosted subscription reached through a browser, with Paragon handling servers, backups and disaster recovery, and MetalWeb as a self-service portal for your customers on either version. Managers get a real-time executive dashboard of sales, AR/AP aging and inventory, with ad hoc reporting and Excel exports.
What Eniteo does well
Eniteo covers sales, purchasing, receiving, shipping, production order scheduling, outside processing and accounting. Enmark's published strengths are commercial and on the floor: an advanced quoting system with pricing matrices, buy-outs created directly from the customer order, full tag traceability with barcodes throughout, automated receiving via SteelXML, and, for toll processors, automated shop order creation.
The family around it is larger than Metalware's. Enmark Pay handles online invoice payment, and EnVision AI answers plain-English questions about profitability, inventory and customers, with margin alerts, dead-stock flags and churn signals. Since joining with Bayern Software in January 2024, Enmark also supports Steel Plus and Capstone users. Ram Alloys gives the named testimonial on Enmark's site.
Where the gaps are
The scheduling Paragon describes is freight, load building and delivery; we found no production scheduling and no mention of AI on its Metalware pages. That fits a product focused on keeping the core record, but it matters if you hoped the ERP would carry production planning or order-desk automation.
Eniteo's pages do not detail catch weight, dual units of measure or consigned inventory the way Paragon's do, which does not mean it lacks them. If those are central to your business, make them the first thing the Enmark demo shows. Neither vendor mentions slitting optimization across the order book.
Situations that tip the decision
The person who runs your IBM i server is retiring
That alone does not rule Metalware out: with MetalNet, Paragon runs the infrastructure, and Paragon is itself an IBM i services firm. Ask what support looks like for the version you run.
Half your tons are toll work on customer-owned coil
Metalware's published depth on customer-owned and consigned inventory is a strength here. Eniteo names toll processing as a segment with automated shop order creation. Run the same toll order, receipt to shipment and invoice, through both.
The owner wants margin by customer without asking IT
EnVision AI is built for plain-English questions like that. Metalware's executive dashboard covers sales and inventory position in real time; ask Paragon to show margin by customer in it.
Pricing and hosting
| Metalware | Eniteo | |
|---|---|---|
| List price | Not published | Not published |

| Customer portal | MetalWeb | Enmark Pay for invoice payment |
| Named customers on vendor site | None on pages we read | Ram Alloys, Race City Steel |
Moving off any ERP means converting tags, genealogy and open orders. Ask each vendor who does the data conversion and what happens to your history.
The bottom line
Stay with Metalware if IBM i is working for you, your inventory is full of consigned metal and mixed units, and you value one firm for both ERP and EDI. Move to Eniteo if you want a broader suite with analytics AI and are ready for a conversion project. Neither publishes a planner for the slitting line itself. LineSight is live with Enmark, and for other ERPs each customer gets an integration built during onboarding (how it compares to Metalware).
